British Firm Accused of Bankrolling Indonesian Rainforest Destruction
June 23, 2009 - London. Hundreds of endangered Orangutans at risk; vital tsunami buffer zone under threat. A coalition of environmental groups has accused a British company of funding the imminent destruction of a critical area of Indonesian rainforest. The groups claim that, if allowed to proceed, the process would destroy a fragile tsunami buffer zone (1) as well as accelerate global climate change.
OURF Announces Scholarship and Fellowship Recipients for 2009
June 2, 2009 - Santa Monica, CA - The Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF), a Santa Monica-based conservation education nonprofit that supports the survival of wild orangutans in Indonesia, announced the recipients of its scholarship and fellowship program for 2009. Five Indonesian students from the island of Sumatra received the Orangutan Caring Scholarship while a student from Holland received the prestigious LP Jenkins Memorial Fellowship.
