Sumatran Orangutan Education Consortium
  • This group of twelve organizations including SOS, Friends of the Orangutan, Orangutan Caring Club, SOCP, FFI, LIF, and OCSP, conducted Orangutan Caring Week (OCW) November 15-22. Their theme for OCW was "Protecting orangutans and their habitat for the sustainability of human life". Participating organizations conducted the following activities: Caring Action in Medan Square; Distributing and sticking at least 1000 OCW stickers in public buses and becak (tricycle transport); Exhibition and film screening in Sun Plaza and Medan Mall (Carefur); Orangutan Discussion Series with environmental activists and students at College campuses.; Setting up orangutan banners in some strategic crossroads in Medan. Orangutan Foundation U.K.
  • Orange for Orangutan Day.  On Friday 14th November, 2008, Orangutan Foundation held "Orange for Orangutan" day.  Encouraging more people to be a part of Orangutan Awareness Week OF/UK asked everyone to wear orange clothing, an orange wig, or even dye their hair orange! They even got an "orangutan" to drive an electric vehicle to show another way to reduce one's carbon footprint! Be ORANGE FOR ORANGUTANS raised awareness and funds for the conservation of orangutans. Los Angeles Zoo
  • Los Angeles Zoo invited OUREI and other organizations to participate in the fourth annual Ape Awareness Day on Sunday, November 9.  Education stations were located throughout the zoo. Docents, keepers, and group volunteers interacted with the public, pass out games and organization literature, gave keeper and docent talks, and encouraged involvement. Miami Metro Zoological Society of Florida-Teen Volunteers

  • Celebrating Orangutan Caring Weekend (Nov 22-23), OUREI and other organizations joined the teaching zoo to raise awareness.

San Diego Zoo
  • San Diego Zoo will conducted events during Great Ape Awareness Days  (Nov 13-16) including a lecture on Orangutan Conservation on November 11.  Each day, the Zoo's three great ape species - gorillas, bonobos, and orangutans -were spotlighted with animal enrichment sessions at each habitat followed by presentations about issues affecting great apes, such as the bushmeat crisis and habitat loss due to illegal logging, slash-and-burn farming practices, and the removal of rain forests for palm oil plantations in Indonesia.    Special graphic panels at each great ape enclosure featured photos and information about conservation efforts and ways people can help.
