March 15, 2009 - Jakarta, Indonesia. Post production on the OUREI Indonesian documentary, "A Princess Meets Princess" was completed in Jakarta during early March 2009. The documentary complements  OUREI's first Indonesian production, "Sumatran Orangutans" (2006). Both videos feature OUREI's Ambassador, Angelina Sondakh as the host of each program. In this latest production, Angelina, Miss Indonesia 2001 or "Princess Indonesia", takes a trip to Central Kalimantan to find and meet the famous orangutan Princess-hence the title.  Along the way she also meets fascinating orangutans and interesting people.

Principle videotaping was done September  2008 in Tanjung Puting National Park, home of over 5,000 orangutans. Most videotaping was done at Camp Leakey, where Princess and dozens of other orangutans, have been living for decades. No further rehabilitation takes place at Camp Leakey, so the area is an orangutan visitation area. The documentary aims to stimulate ecotourism and appreciation of orangutans among the Indonesian people.

Funding for the documentary was provided to OUREI by a number of orangutan and conservation organizations including the Australian Orangutan Project, Orangutan Foundation UK, the Andrew Sabin Family Foundation, and Save the Species Foundation.  Further funding was provided by Excelso CafĂ©, a well known  Indonesian coffee shop chain.  Logistical support for the documentary was provided by YAYORIN (the Orangutan Foundation Indonesia) and Orangutan Foundation UK.

During the course of the four day trip to Kalimantan,  Angelina and the video team met with the local regency head, government officials, the people of the village of Tanjung Harapan, and ecotourists at Pondok Tenggui. On camera appearances by Dr. Gary Shapiro (OURF), Stephen Brend (OF/UK), and Togu Simorangkir (YAYORIN) provide valuable information about the orangutans and challenges facing the NGOs working in the area.

The documentary will be distributed in Indonesia by OUREI Indonesia.  Efforts are underway to locate sponsorship for airing the documentary.
