Court grants Walhi appeal, cancels plantation permit in Aceh
5 September 2012 - The Jakarta Post. Aceh Governor Zaini Abdullah has been instructed to revoke a legally problematic business permit owned by oil company, PT Kallista Alam, which operates in the carbon-rich Tripa peat swamps in Nagan Raya regency, Aceh, by the Medan Administrative Court after granting an appeal filed by the Aceh chapter of the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi).
Crowd source funding campaign launched to support scholarship program
1 September 2012 - Santa Monica, CA - In an effort to support one of its most successful education programs, the Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF) initiated a 77-day crowd source funding campaign today to support six scholarships. The Orangutan Caring Scholarship is a collaborative program between OURF and two Indonesian organizations in Sumatra and Borneo. Since its inception in 2006, 47 multi-year awards for tuition support have been given to deserving undergraduate students in the schools of biology, forestry and veterinary science. OURF raises the funds and the Orangutan Information Center in Sumatra and the Palung Foundation in Borneo administers the program locally. Each scholarship provides the students four years of tuition and research write up support.

Eight Orangutans To Be Let Free In Kalimantan
9 August 2012 - Jakarta Globe - Wildlife conservationists are preparing to release another eight orangutans back into the wild from the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation’s Nyaru Menteng Rehabilitation Center in Central Kalimantan, which released 15 endangered apes earlier this year.

At last, the Government of Aceh is involved through the establishment of an internal investigation team. In one step, Tripa Peat Swamp will either be restored or destroyed. The commitment of the Governor of Aceh will decide.
