OURF to Hold First Indonesian Fundraiser
20 February 2015 - Santa Monica, CA - Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF) will be holding its first Indonesian fundraiser in Seminyak, Bali on March 6, 2014. With the title, “Voices for the Jungle,” the event will be held at Warehouse 82, a popular gathering place for artists and musicians on this exotic Indonesian island. The local public, which includes a large expat community, is invited to attend the evening fundraiser.
After 10 years of soliciting funds primarily in the USA for Indonesian education programs, OURF and its Indonesian partners Yayasan Initiatif Pendidkan Orangutan Indonesia (YIPOI) will be seeking support in the country where its programs are mainly implemented.
Indonesia is only one of two countries where wild orangutans are found on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. Orangutans are considered “endangered” on Borneo and “critically endangered” on Sumatra. Programs funded by OURF and implemented by YIPOI help to improve the species chances of survival by providing formal and informal education to local people who are in conflict with orangutans or who are in need of education to improve their livelihood.
The fundraiser will feature dance and acrobatic performances, DJ inspired music, and video presentations to inform and entertain the attendees. A raffle and silent auction will be held to help raise funds. Some of the items in the silent auction will be paintings of orangutans created by Indonesian artists. Numerous local businesses have contributed services and items in support of the fundraiser.
